What we have been doing
September is always one of my favorite months—hints of fall but still those longer days. It feels like such a transition from summer. After a crazy busy season, we were excited to spend some weekends at home and finally tackle a few long-standing projects on our own house. We built our bocce ball court, and have been working on our front porch. We spent some time in Colorado for a wedding and to celebrate our anniversary.
Client projects have been feeling really rewarding lately and keeping us very busy. The current build project is moving along quickly and is already closed in and starting finish work, I’ve been selecting a lot of furniture for a lot of different projects(and a lot of different styles) I also got to photograph my Truckee design project which was great to see it all come together.

What we have been loving
For the home- I’ve been working on a project where the cabinetry was already selected before I came on board, and the choice was a super bright, crisp white. Normally, I lean toward warmer or creamier whites, but it’s been fun to step outside my go-to's and play with the contrast. The bright backdrop has opened up opportunities to balance it with slightly moodier accents and of course all the fall colors.
In the kitchen- I’ve been trying to find time to can as much as possible. One of my goals with the slightly insane amount of tomatoes I planted was to preserve a decent supply for winter. With the amount we cook with tomatoes I am not there yet but still excited to enjoy what I have done in a few months! Right now, I’m still very much in summer mode with all of our late produce, and I’m not quite ready to rush into fall. But I am starting to look forward to some of my favorite cozy fall recipes, like this Fall Harvest Honeycrisp Apple and Kale Salad and this Fall Spiced Granola.
In the garden- With the addition of our bocce ball court and new porch, we’ve opened up new zones for landscaping. I’ve been layering in compost into these areas to prep for fall planting over the next couple of weeks. The cut flowers are thriving with the cooler nights and warm days, and—crazy as it sounds—It is time to start looking ahead to next spring. I’ve been separating and transplanting fall-planted bulbs like daffodils, allium, and snowdrops, as well as sowing seeds that need cold stratification.
